How can a Mecalac wheeled excavator lift almost half its own weight?

  • The compact boom design allows loads to be kept closer to the machine’s center of gravity.
  • The closer the load is positioned to the base, the stronger the machine becomes.
  • The compact Mecalac boom can be folded alongside the cab, allowing the first boom section to act as a counterweight.
  • The dipper arm cylinder is positioned inside the Mecalac boom. The extending side of a cylinder is twice as strong as the retracting side, delivering exceptional lifting and pushing power on the dipper arm.
  • The compact overall design also plays a key role: the slewing ring of the upper structure is mounted low within the chassis, lowering the center of gravity.
  • Stable throughout the entire swing range: the slewing ring is positioned exactly in the middle between the axles, ensuring consistent stability in every working position.

Compact on all sides

Instead of a standard two-piece boom (base + dipper arm), Mecalac uses a triple boom design. The Mecalac boom can be folded alongside the cab, allowing the machine to work very close to itself and remain extremely compact. In addition, every Mecalac wheeled excavator comes with four-wheel steering as standard, providing a tight turning radius. The rear of the machine is also designed to be compact, allowing the operator to work safely near walls, trees or lamp posts without concern. Thanks to its low center of gravity, no additional counterweight is needed, keeping the machine compact even at the rear. This design also ensures excellent all-round visibility, allowing for safer operation. A true zero tail swing machine, ideal for urban environments and tight spaces.

Powerful drive system of the wheeled excavator

Mecalac machines are equipped with a powerful drive system. This system is powered by a separate hydraulic drive circuit with an independent pump, ensuring that traction power is not lost during simultaneous boom and/or swing movements. An attachment can be operated at the same time while driving, without any loss of hydraulic power or performance. This makes many applications possible, such as driving with a trailer or dumper in rough terrain, levelling a rubble surface with a leveller or bucket, mechanical paving, mowing verges or ditches, tree removal, and other tasks where both the drive system and additional (boom) functions are used simultaneously.
